Hemmed Privacy Policy
Last updated October 27, 2026
Hemmed is made by Scaile Studios LLC, a Missouri limited liability company ("Scaile Studios", "we", "us"). This policy explains what the Hemmed app, our license service and hemmed.app collect, why, who else handles it, and your choices.
The short version: Hemmed has no analytics, crash reporting or ads. We only receive the information we need to sell and activate your license and to check for updates. Hemmed does not collect analytics, usage data or the contents of your screen.
1. The Hemmed app on your Mac
Accessibility permission. Hemmed needs Accessibility access in macOS, and macOS asks you to grant it. Hemmed uses it to:
- find, move, hide and show other apps' menu bar icons, by reading the labels, positions and sizes of menu bar items
- run Pinned Actions: when you create a pin, Hemmed opens that app's menu bar menu and reads its menu item titles so you can pick one, and when you run a pin, it opens the menu and presses the item you chose
For each pin, Hemmed saves the app, the menu bar item and the titles of the menu items in its path, so it can find them again. Pins are stored only in Hemmed's settings on your Mac. Hemmed does not read window contents, capture your screen, or access your clipboard, and nothing it reads through Accessibility, including menu item titles, is sent to us or anyone else.
Pointer and clicks. To keep the menu bar working normally, for example so a click on the clock still opens Notification Center, Hemmed watches the position of your pointer and when you click or drag. To move icons and run Pinned Actions, it sends simulated clicks and key presses to the menu bar item or app involved. Hemmed does not record, store or send your pointer movements or clicks.
Keyboard shortcuts. You can set a keyboard shortcut to open Hemmed and give each Pinned Action its own shortcut. Hemmed registers each shortcut with macOS, so it is told only when one of your chosen shortcuts is pressed. Hemmed does not monitor, record or send any other keystrokes.
Data that stays on your Mac. Your icon layout, settings and Pinned Actions are stored locally. Your trial start date, license key, activation details and a random device ID are stored in your login Keychain. None of this is sent to us except as described in section 2.
No tracking. Hemmed does not include analytics, crash reporting or advertising code. During the free trial, Hemmed makes no license requests. It does check for updates (see Update checks below).
Update checks. About once every 24 hours, and whenever you choose Check for Updates, Hemmed contacts www.hemmed.app to see if a new version is available. This also happens during the free trial. Each check sends your IP address and a short identifier giving the Hemmed version and the version of the update software it uses. Hemmed does not send any information about your Mac, your settings or how you use the app. Our website host may keep these requests in standard server logs for a limited time. You can turn off automatic checks with the "Automatically update Hemmed" setting, which is on by default.
2. License activation and daily checks
When you activate a license key, deactivate a Mac, or use Remove Oldest Activation, and about once a day while Hemmed is running with a license, the app contacts our license service at license.scailestudios.com. Each request contains:
- your license key
- a random ID that Hemmed creates for that Mac and keeps in your Keychain (Hemmed does not read your Mac's serial number or any hardware identifier)
- your Mac's name, as set in System Settings (for example "Studio Mac")
- the Hemmed version
We use this to keep each key within its limit of 3 Macs, show you which Macs use your key when you reach that limit, and stop keys that were refunded or charged back. We store the device identifier, device name, when the Mac was activated and when it last checked in. We do not store the Hemmed version.
3. Purchases
Hemmed is sold through Paddle, which acts as our reseller and Merchant of Record. Paddle collects your payment details, billing address and email at checkout and handles them under the Paddle Privacy Policy. We never see or store your card details.
After a purchase, Paddle notifies our license service and we receive your Paddle transaction ID and customer ID, and look up your email address from Paddle. We store these with your license key, its status (active or revoked), when it was created and emailed, and when Remove Oldest Activation was last used. We use this to email your key, resend it if you lose it, handle refunds and support, and enforce the activation limit. We do not receive or store other Paddle data such as your name, address or payment method.
4. Emails
Your license key is emailed to you through our email delivery provider, Resend. Each email contains your email address, your license key and your transaction ID. We do not send marketing email to buyers. If you email support at hemmed dot app, we keep that correspondence to help you.
5. This website
hemmed.app does not set cookies and does not load analytics or tracking scripts. The site and our license service are hosted on Cloudflare. Our license service does not store IP addresses or browser information, but Cloudflare, as our hosting provider, processes technical data such as IP addresses and request details to deliver the site and protect it from abuse, and may keep this in its own logs for a limited time.
The Buy button opens Paddle's checkout, which may use its own cookies to complete the purchase and prevent fraud.
6. Who handles your data
| Provider | Role | Data |
|---|---|---|
| Paddle | Reseller and Merchant of Record | Checkout, payment and billing data |
| Cloudflare | Hosting, license database (D1) | License and activation records; technical request data |
| Resend | License email delivery | Email address, license key, transaction ID |
We do not sell or share your personal information for advertising. We may disclose data if required by law.
7. Legal bases (EU, UK and similar laws)
We process purchase and license data to perform our contract with you (delivering and managing your license), and technical and anti-abuse data for our legitimate interest in running a secure service. Tax and transaction records are kept by Paddle to meet its legal obligations.
8. International transfers
We and our providers are based in or operate in the United States and other countries. Where data leaves your country, we rely on our providers' transfer safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses.
9. How long we keep data
- License records: for as long as your license exists, so your key keeps working and can be resent.
- Activation records: removed when you deactivate that Mac or when it is removed with Remove Oldest Activation.
- Support email: for as long as needed to help you.
- Paddle keeps transaction records as required by tax and accounting rules.
10. Your choices and rights
You can ask us for a copy of the data we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it. Deleting your license record also stops your key from working. Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK or California), you may have further rights, including to object to or restrict processing, to data portability, and to complain to your local data protection authority. We do not discriminate against you for exercising these rights. Email support at hemmed dot app from your purchase address and we will reply within 30 days.
11. Children
Hemmed is not directed to children under 13 (or 16 where local law requires), and we do not knowingly collect their data.
12. Security
We limit access to license data to the people who need it to support you, and our license service stores no payment information.
13. Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top. For significant changes, we will give notice on hemmed.app.
